Sisters’ Suhbah Retreat
WHAT IS SUHBAH?
Suhbah is the Arabic word for companionship. In the Islamic tradition it represents fellowship, being in good company, and mentorship. The greatest generation of Muslims, the Sahabah, are literally known as the Companions of the Prophet (S). They learned, benefited, and grew from being in the company of the Messenger of Allah (S). Since that time, great emphasis has been placed in creating beneficial relationships and spaces. This is our effort to provide that for Muslim women in our community.
THE BOOK YOU’LL BE STUDYING
Al-Wasiyyah: The Advice of the Esteemed Scholar Ibn Qudamah Al-Maqdisi is a succinct and powerful book of advice for the student of knowledge. Broken up into three chapters, which we will cover throughout the weekend, Imam Ibn Qudamah covers ‘Hastening to Act’, ‘Things that Invalidate Good Deeds’, and ‘Vigilance and Fear’. By studying this book, translated by Ustadha Aisha Bewley, we hope to leave the weekend with a more purified heart and mind, a stronger desire and guidance towards doing good, and a deeper appreciation for female Islamic scholarship in bringing us closer to Allah (SWT).
Each day will consist of the following activities:
Prayers—Sessions—Reflections—Discussions—Q&A—Meal Prep—Swimming—Bonfires—and other activities InshaAllah!
A more detailed breakdown of the sessions and planned activities will be emailed to the attendees closer to the retreat date, inshAllah!
